March Monthly Meeting
Carole Briggs is a qualified Celebrant who can officiate at weddings, funerals and naming ceremonies. She delivered a most interesting talk, taking us from the beginnings of this service in Australia, explaining how people qualified and the characteristics that best suit them to the role.
Carole chooses to concentrate on funerals working mainly in Darlington, Durham and Wear Valley. We probably all learned more than we expected about internments, cremations, where the services can take place (in village halls, at the graveside, in chapels), the variety of coffins available, where woodland burials are available locally and where you are allowed to dispose of loved ones' ashes.
Carole was a most informative speaker, who is clearly passionate about her role, but still gave us a few amusing anecdotes to brighten the talk.
In accordance with Government advice, all South Durham U3A meetings, visits and activities are now cancelled until further notice.
