April's meeting 'starred' Lynne, Sue & Wendy, three volunteers for Guide Dogs for the Blind, alongside Xena (or Zena), a delightful German Shepherd trainee guide dog.

We learned how puppies spend most of their first 12/13 months with a 'puppy trainer' (Lynne on the left of the photo with her puppy), who then passes them over for their official guide dog training before they are given to a blind person to act as their 'eyes'.

Sue lost her sight 18 years ago and told us of her previous guide dogs, was happy to answer questions on what they are fed, what verbal commands they answer to, and what happens when they poo!! Wendy is a 'foster carer' who looks after puppies when their owners go on holiday and also works as a driver for Sue.

Together they were a most entertaining group of speakers - completely devoted to the dogs - and very happy to share their life experiences with us.
